About

Condemned for a crime you did not commit, you are lowered into the Oubliette, the sealed prison beneath Mount Karrak. The Magistrate has sworn a pardon to whoever returns with the Sunstone. In eleven years, no one has. Torch and Shadow is a classic roguelike with one rule at its heart: you only see what is lit. Your torch burns oil, and when it goes out the world turns cold and blue, your own glow shrinks to a glimmer, and the things in the dark can still see you. • Twenty-five hand-shaped floors across five regions: the gaol, the catacombs, a buried street, the forge halls and the abyss. Each floor adds a page to the story of the colony that dug too deep and the thing it woke. • Turn-based or realtime. Play it as a roguelike where nothing moves until you do, or in realtime with a guard circle: time slows in a fight, blows come in as red shields, and your timing decides how much gets through. • Four of the condemned: a knight who braces when he holds his ground, a sorcerer who reads pages from memory, a cutpurse who hoods the torch to vanish, a ranger who senses what walks behind the wall. • Dread. The dark gathers on you: faster deep down, with the torch out, surrounded, beside graves. Past a point your aim suffers, and at the top you break and run. Fires, altars and company bring it down. • The Boneyard: an optional field of graves behind a lych gate, where the stones can be read and some of them answer. • Unknown draughts and pages learned by use, gear you can merge and improve, prisoners with errands, vaults, altars and a peddler. • Every sound synthesised on the spot. No account, no connection needed, no ads, no purchases. Your run is saved on your Mac. • Keyboard, mouse and game controller support, full screen, and a window you can size as you like.
